« Return to Community Outreach THE CYNTHIA ANN MORROW STUDENT DROP-IN CENTER The Student Drop-In Center opened its doors on October 15, 1986 to provide an after-school program at no cost to meet academic and social needs of students. Volunteers are recruited from church, the community, and UCSB. Tutoring, counseling, recreation, and a healthy snack are provided in an attractive setting that includes a quiet study room, computers, and a gymnasium. Endorsed by school administrators, counselors, teachers, parents, and the PTA, the project has received a positive response from the community. We dedicate our efforts to the memory of Cynthia Ann Morrow for whom the Center is named. Despite a congenital birth defect that confined her to a wheelchair, Cynthia attended Santa Barbara City College for eight years, taking just one or two classes a semester until she earned an Associate of Arts degree in English. Cynthia will be remembered for her achievement as well as for the inspiration her memory brings to those determined to learn. We wish for each student the determination to learn and the fulfillment of his or her aspirations. The Board of Directors of the Cynthia Ann Morrow Student Drop-In Center offer you, your business, or organization the opportunity to support the youth of our community by volunteering as a tutor or assistant, taking part in the activities and events of the Drop-In Center, or donating funds needed for the operation of the program (all contributions are tax deductible). Donations may be made to The Student Drop-In Center, First United Methodist Church, 305 E. Anapamu Street, Santa Barbara, California 93101.
