First United Methodist Church
Community Outreach

Historically, there has always been a long standing commitment of our congregation with involvement in the local community and societal concerns. FUMCSB considers community outreach a vital part of the mission of Jesus Christ in the world:

"To send persons into the world to live lovingly and justly as servants of Christ by healing the sick, feeding the hungry, caring for the stranger, freeing the oppressed, being and becoming a compassionate, caring presence, and working to develop social structures that are consistent with the gospel."

The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, Paragraph 122

"The outreach ministries of the church shall give attention to the local and larger community ministries of compassion, justice, and advocacy."

The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, Paragraph 252.2

Many members of our congregation are directly involved in community outreach, actively participating in the mission statement of FUMCSB, namely "To share the inclusive love of God which we know in Jesus Christ with each other, with the greater Santa Barbara community, and with the world".

Two of these outreach missions are:
   »  FAITH AND SOCIETY
   »  HEALTH MINISTRIES
   »  STUDENT DROP-IN CENTER
