02/07/2010: SOUPER BOWL OF CARING
More than 20 years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group: “Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us to be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat.”

Since that day, more than $60 million has been raised for local charities across the country through the Souper Bowl of Caring. Through this mission, young people learn what it’s like to make a positive difference in the world-as they raise money and volunteer to provide food for the hungry and compassion to those in need.

On Sunday Feb. 7th, the youth will ask that you consider dropping one dollar (or more) into the soup pot as you exit. Every dollar goes directly to The Santa Barbara Food Bank. Donations will also be accepted at the church office if you can't be in worship service that day.

WINTER COAT COLLECTION
Our kids at FUMCSB will again be collecting winter coats in collaboration with the Kids in Mission group. This is a group of children’s ministries teams in Santa Barbara working together to promote participation of our children helping local causes. Last winter, the group collected more than 265 coats, many from this congregation. Gently used or new coats will be collected in the
months of December and January to be distributed to Unity Shoppe. If you have a coat that fits the description, please save it for our collection.

UNITY SHOPPE FOOD DRIVE
A word of thanks to all of you who have been bringing food for the Unity Shoppe cart located in the sanctuary. Unity Shoppe is in special need of food items this time of year when the demand is higher. Please give generously and help those in need through this unique program of outreach to the community that provides help in a way that preserves the dignity of the recipient. Please donate much needed dry or baby cereal, canned fruit, peanut butter and canned tuna and chicken. Consider adding these items to your weekly grocery list and place items in the cart located either at the back of the sanctuary or outside the Garden preschool room.

PLEASE HELP THE HOMELESS
With the change in the weather, our friends who live on the streets are in need of new or gently used warm sleeping bags, men's sneakers, jeans, t-shirts and socks. We will be accepting donations for the entire month of November. You may drop off items at the Will Bridge Street Outreach office at 1215 East Montecito Street, or if you need assistance, please feel free to contact Wayne Mellinger at 805-276-6586 or email him at waynemellinger@gmail.com. Sponsored by Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE SB) and WillBridge Homeless Shelter.
