Today First United Methodist Church (FUMC) Santa Barbara is a vibrant, warm, inviting church that invites you to experience the love of God through Jesus Christ every Sunday morning in worship and in Church School, and throughout the year in an ever-expanding variety of education, fellowship, music, and compassionate missions programs.
We give thanks for these avenues for worship, study, and fellowship and realize that Christian discipleship and stewardship are intrinsically interwoven in our personal faith journeys. As members of the church we understand and view our contributions of financial resources, time, and talent in all areas of our lives as expressions of Christian stewardship. As stewards of the Church, we joyfully give of our financial resources to ensure that our ministries will continue to serve in countless ways, in both church and the community.
Our operating budget is broken down as follows (approximately):
- 11.8%: Conference Support: Contributions to UMC missions work we are doing in the world, Conference apportionments, missions priorities
- 21.7%: Pastoral Ministry: Clergy, housing allowances, car reimbursements, Membership Director, and continuing education
- 9.7%: Christian Education: Church School, Christian Education Coordinator, Youth Coordinator and Assistants, College Age Coordinator, child care, and library
- 10.9%: Music and Worship: Chancel Choir, Director of Music, Director of Bells, Organist, Bell Choirs, organ and piano tuning, music supplies, and sacristy and worship supplies
- 2.3%: Information Ministries: Carillon newsletter, Sunday bulletins, advertising, web site, and church archives
- 12.6%: Facility Maintenance: Custodians, gardener, contracted maintenance, supplies, utilities, and insurance
- 10.6%: Connectional Ministries: Church programs and committees, membership and outreach, work teams, adult education, youth programs, events and supplies, mission projects, and Vacation Bible School
- 12.2%: Administration: Administrative Assistant, Office and Financial personnel, computer support, telephone, postage, office equipment, supplies, contingency and miscellaneous
- 8.2%: Personnel Support: Pensions, social security, and medical coverage
